Produces sweet nuts eaten by deer, small mammals, and turkeys. One of North America’s most valuable timber oaks. Produces highest quality firewood. The red oaks are more susceptible to oak wilt; the white oak is a recommended replacement tree. Grows in dry to moist upland soils. Partial shade to full sun.
Protection from deer browsing is highly recommended.
